Google Play Screenshot Sizes 2026

Updated October 2026

Short answer: Google Play screenshots are JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha channel, between 320 and 3840 px on each side, with the long side at most twice the short side. Upload up to 8 per device type. 1080 × 1920 portrait works for phones. The listing also needs a 1024 × 500 feature graphic and a 512 × 512 app icon. For tablets and Chromebooks use 16:9 or 9:16 images between 1080 and 7680 px, at least 4 of them.

All Google Play asset sizes at a glance

Unlike the App Store, Google Play does not use fixed per-device sizes. It sets limits that every image must meet, plus fixed sizes for the icon and feature graphic.

Google also requires at least two screenshots in total, across your supported device types, before you can publish. Google’s page lists no file size limit for screenshots or the feature graphic, so we do not quote one.

Phone screenshot size

Google lists no phone-specific dimensions. The general rules apply: each side between 320 and 3840 px, and the longest side no more than twice the shortest. That allows 9:16 (1080 × 1920), but also very tall phone ratios up to 1:2, such as 1080 × 2160.

Our recommendation (not a Google rule): export 1080 × 1920. It is exactly 9:16, so the same set also meets the large-screen minimum described below.

7-inch, 10-inch tablet and Chromebook screenshots

Google does not list separate 7″ and 10″ sizes. Tablets and Chromebooks share one rule set:

  • At least 4 screenshots, up to 8.
  • Each side between 1080 and 7680 px.
  • Aspect ratio 16:9 for landscape or 9:16 for portrait.
  • Leave out text that is not part of the core app experience.

For featuring and recommendations on large screens, Google asks apps for at least four screenshots at 1080 px or more (landscape 16:9, minimum 1920 × 1080; portrait 9:16, minimum 1080 × 1920). Games need at least three 16:9 landscape or 9:16 portrait screenshots at those minimums, showing the in-game experience. Put the UI in the first three screenshots and use captured footage of the app rather than people holding a device, unless the app is used off-device.

Feature graphic: 1024 × 500

The feature graphic is required. It must be exactly 1024 × 500 px, JPEG or 24-bit PNG, with no alpha channel. Google uses it as the cover for your promo video and in large-format collections, and may crop it, so keep the logo and key text away from the edges. Design tips and mistakes are in our feature graphic guide.

App icon: 512 × 512

The icon is a 512 × 512 px, 32-bit PNG up to 1024 KB. It is the one Play asset where alpha is allowed. It must follow Google’s icon design specifications and must not carry badges or text suggesting ranking, price or Play categories.

Promo video

The promo video is optional for apps (games are required to have one for certain Play placements). Provide a YouTube URL for a single video, not a playlist or channel, with no extra parameters such as timecodes. It must be public or unlisted, not age-restricted, embeddable, and have ads disabled. Only the first 30 seconds autoplay, muted. Google recommends showing the real app within the first 10 seconds. For the Apple side see our app preview video specs.

Common rejection mistakes

  • Transparency: a PNG with an alpha channel is refused for screenshots and the feature graphic. Flatten it onto a solid background.
  • Too tall or too wide: a screenshot whose long side is more than twice its short side is refused.
  • Wrong tablet ratio: large-screen images that are not 16:9 or 9:16, or fall outside 1080–7680 px.
  • Too few tablet images: fewer than 4 tablet or Chromebook screenshots.
  • Feature graphic off by a few pixels: 1024 × 512 or a scaled 2048 × 1000 is not 1024 × 500.
  • Icon format mix-up: the icon is a 32-bit PNG (alpha allowed); screenshots and the feature graphic are not.
  • Private or monetized video: the promo video must be public or unlisted with ads off.

How to make them in 9make

The 9make screenshot editor designs your set once and exports a ZIP with a Google Play phone set at 1080 × 1920 (up to 8 screenshots) and the 1024 × 500 feature graphic, as RGB PNG files with no alpha channel. It does not export tablet sets or the 512 × 512 icon, so capture tablet screenshots on a real tablet or emulator. Editing is free; exports need a Google sign-in and a Pro plan (7-day free trial), carry no watermark, and your files are processed in your browser. For frames, captions and templates see the screenshot generator.
