App Store Screenshot Sizes (2026)
Updated October 2026
Short answer: Apple requires one iPhone set: 6.9″ (1320 × 2868, 1290 × 2796 or 1260 × 2736 in portrait), or 6.5″ if you do not provide 6.9″. Make the 6.9″ set and Apple scales it down for smaller iPhones. If your app runs on iPad, the 13″ display (2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732) is required. Google Play wants 2 to 8 screenshots plus a 1024 × 500 feature graphic.
iPhone screenshot sizes
Apple groups iPhones by display size. Each size accepts the pixel dimensions below, in portrait or landscape (swap width and height for landscape). You must provide one iPhone set, and 6.9″ is the one to make; if you skip a smaller size, Apple shows the scaled screenshots from the next larger size.
| Display | Portrait pixels | Landscape pixels | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6.9″ | 1260 × 2736 1290 × 2796 1320 × 2868 | 2736 × 1260 2796 × 1290 2868 × 1320 | Required if the app runs on iPhone (unless you provide 6.5″ instead) |
| 6.5″ | 1284 × 2778 1242 × 2688 | 2778 × 1284 2688 × 1242 | Required only if no 6.9″ set; otherwise falls back to 6.9″ |
| 6.3″ | 1179 × 2556 1206 × 2622 | 2556 × 1179 2622 × 1206 | Optional, falls back to 6.5″ |
| 6.1″ | 1170 × 2532 1125 × 2436 1080 × 2340 | 2532 × 1170 2436 × 1125 2340 × 1080 | Optional, falls back to 6.5″ |
| 5.5″ | 1242 × 2208 | 2208 × 1242 | Optional, falls back to 6.1″ |
| 4.7″ | 750 × 1334 | 1334 × 750 | Optional, falls back to 5.5″ |
| 4″ | 640 × 1096 (no status bar) 640 × 1136 | 1136 × 600 1136 × 640 | Optional, falls back to 4.7″ |
| iPhone Duo (outer / inner display) | 1398 × 2034 2007 × 2853 | 2034 × 1398 2853 × 2007 | Apple says upload support in App Store Connect “will be available later this year” |
| 3.5″ | 640 × 920 (no status bar) 640 × 960 | 960 × 600 960 × 640 | Optional, falls back to 4″ |
iPad screenshot sizes
The same fallback logic applies on iPad, with 13″ as the required size when your app runs on iPad.
| Display | Portrait pixels | Landscape pixels | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13″ | 2064 × 2752 2048 × 2732 | 2752 × 2064 2732 × 2048 | Required if the app runs on iPad |
| 12.9″ | 2048 × 2732 | 2732 × 2048 | Optional, falls back to 13″ |
| 11″ | 1488 × 2266 1668 × 2420 1668 × 2388 1640 × 2360 | 2266 × 1488 2420 × 1668 2388 × 1668 2360 × 1640 | Optional, falls back to 13″ |
| 10.5″ | 1668 × 2224 | 2224 × 1668 | Optional, falls back to 12.9″ |
| 9.7″ | 1536 × 2008 (no status bar) 1536 × 2048 768 × 1004 768 × 1024 | 2048 × 1496 2048 × 1536 1024 × 748 1024 × 768 | Optional, falls back to 10.5″ |
Mac apps need 16:10 screenshots (1280 × 800, 1440 × 900, 2560 × 1600 or 2880 × 1800). Apple TV needs 1920 × 1080 or 3840 × 2160, and Apple Vision Pro 3840 × 2160.
Apple Watch apps need one of these sizes, used consistently across all localizations:
| Watch | Screenshot size |
|---|---|
| Ultra 4, Ultra 3 | 422 × 514 |
| Ultra 2, Ultra | 410 × 502 |
| Series 12, 11, 10 | 416 × 496 |
| Series 9, 8, 7 | 396 × 484 |
| Series 6, 5, 4, SE 3, SE 2, SE | 368 × 448 |
| Series 3, 2, 1 | 312 × 390 |
Google Play graphic sizes
Google Play is more relaxed: instead of fixed device sizes it sets limits that every screenshot must meet, and one fixed size for the feature graphic.
| Asset | Size | Format | Count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phone screenshots | Each side 320–3840 px; the long side can be at most twice the short side | JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha | 2–8 |
| Tablet and Chromebook screenshots (7″ and 10″) | Each side 1080–7680 px, 16:9 landscape or 9:16 portrait | JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha | At least 4, up to 8 |
| Feature graphic | 1024 × 500 px | JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha | 1 |
| App icon | 512 × 512 px | 32-bit PNG (alpha allowed), max 1024 KB | 1 |
Google recommends at least 1080 px on the short side if you want your app eligible for large-format recommendations. A 1080 × 1920 portrait screenshot satisfies every limit above. Details for the feature graphic are in our feature graphic guide.
Upload rules that trip people up
- Count: App Store Connect takes 1 to 10 screenshots per size and localization; Google Play takes 2 to 8 per device type.
- Format: Apple accepts .jpeg, .jpg and .png. Google Play accepts JPEG and 24-bit PNG.
- No transparency: neither store accepts an alpha channel. Export flattened images, or you will get an upload error.
- Scaling from the largest size: Apple uses scaled 6.9″ screenshots wherever a smaller iPhone size is missing, so design once for 1320 × 2868 and add smaller sizes only when you want different framing.
- Apple Watch: the watch must use one screenshot size consistently across all localizations.
What 9make exports
The 9make screenshot editor designs your set once at 1320 × 2868 and exports a ZIP with these sizes, as RGB PNG files with no alpha channel:
- iPhone 6.9″: 1320 × 2868, up to 10 screenshots
- iPhone 6.5″: 1284 × 2778, up to 10 screenshots
- Google Play phone: 1080 × 1920, up to 8 screenshots
- Google Play feature graphic: 1024 × 500
It does not export iPad or Mac sizes yet. If your app needs those, make the iPhone set in 9make and produce the iPad set separately. Exports need a free Google sign-in; they carry no watermark and your files are processed in your browser.
Which sizes should you actually make?
For a typical iPhone-only app, make one set at 1320 × 2868. That single set meets Apple’s iPhone requirement (6.5″ is only required when you do not provide 6.9″), and Apple scales it for every smaller iPhone. Add a 6.5″ set only if your layout looks wrong when scaled, for example because text sits close to the edges.
If you also ship on iPad, you need a separate 13″ set. Do not stretch iPhone screenshots to fit: the aspect ratio is different, so phones end up distorted or surrounded by empty space. For Google Play, one 1080 × 1920 set covers phones, and 1080 × 1920 is exactly 9:16, so it also meets Google’s large-screen rule (1080 to 7680 px, 16:9 or 9:16). For tablets and Chromebooks Google asks for at least 4 screenshots; a set captured on a real tablet shows your app better on large screens.
Use the full 10 slots on the App Store only if each screenshot says something new. The first two or three are the ones most people see in search results, so put your strongest feature first.
Common upload errors
Most rejected uploads come from the same few problems. An image with a transparent background or an alpha channel is refused by both stores. Dimensions that are off by a few pixels, often from cropping a device screenshot by hand, do not match any accepted size. A Google Play screenshot whose long side is more than twice its short side is refused too. And screenshots that mix portrait and landscape sizes within one set are easy to upload to the wrong display slot.
The fix is to export from one source design at the exact target size instead of resizing by hand, and to flatten the image to RGB before upload.
